The challenge
A climate-neutral Europe by 2050 without leaving any people or regions behind; that is the goal of the new EU Green Deal. Given that the production and consumption of energy is responsible for three quarters of European greenhouse gas emissions, 70% of which are emitted in cities, the urban energy transition is a crucial challenge.
How do we shape an inclusive urban energy transition in a country where 1 in 5 residents struggle with energy poverty? What is your innovative idea or groundbreaking solution to solve energy poverty locally and globally? Do you have an idea to enable easy access to renewable energy, even for those who are living in challenging circumstances? Or do you feel motivated to help others to execute their ideas? Come hack this challenge together with other citizens, with the help of professional coaches!
Participants are gathered into interdisciplinary teams and will be coached by leading professionals and academics in the field of energy transition, social innovation, technology and entrepreneurship. The winning team will get support to further develop, launch and integrate their initiative as part of the Climate Plan2030 of the City of Antwerp.
Feeding the Antwerp Climate Plan 2030
The challenge above is put forward by Stadsform in collaboration with the City of Antwerp and their new Climate Director Manon Janssen - coördinator of the rollout of the city's Climate Plan2030 that aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 50 to 55% by 2030 compared to 2005.
This Climathon invites a broad audience of citizens, students and professionals to develop new avenues and initiatives to tackle the questions above and will be integrated in the rollout of the Climate Plan2030 of the City of Antwerp.
